140 & 485 pending, can I file H1b extension? Thanks

instruction of I-539 Question 3.c:
"if an application for adjustment of status has been filed with the USCIS and is currently pending, the applicant does not need to file an extension or change of status application; if an extension or change of status application is filed in these circumstances, it would be denied."

So,how to do if want work?
