If 485 is denied,you may file a appeal or a motion to
reopen,then you may stay in USA to wait the result.But
if appeal is denied too,your over stay time will be counted since the initial denial date.
As my opinon , you may file a new I-485 application
during your appeal is pending,and EAD is valid.
