I think that you are well qualified for NIW. Just get a good lawyer and organize your materials carefully. You stand a good chance of being approved.
And it is better that you do it ASAP. From the recent estimate, the retrogression is going to be relieved, but just temporily. When USCIS really begin to deal with the backlog application, the retrogression is very likely happen again and might even get worse. But in the next several months, the priority date will move fast. NIW belongs to EB-2 and might be affected by the huge influx of LC approval. If you file your NIW earlier and are lucky enough, you might be able to submit your I-485 before the second possible retrogression. Anyway, an earlier I-140 priority date is only going to help you.
