SSN and 485 pending

My wife has no SSN. We 485 pending, 140 approval.

(a). Can she apply SSN directly with 485 receipt notice?
or
(b). She has to apply EAD first, then use EAD to apply SSN.

Any guru has the same experience?? Thank you for your help.
