I-140 Question,help please

I am H1,PERM just got approved and now trying to file my I-140.
I plan to use H1 to go back home next summer. I guess at that time my I-140 will be either pending or approved, but I still can not file 485 at that time.
is it safe to go back home in this situation? I mean I will not automatically gave up the application, am I right?
