How to "use" EAD?

Many people talk about "use" EAD. If one receives EAD, how to
"use" or "not use" EAD?

I understand how to "use" AP. If one visits China and come back
without applying visa, but show his AP, he has "used" AP. But
confused on "use" EAD.
