LUD is "Last Update Date" from USCIS on-line status check system. You will need to register your SRC# and your email with USCIS and then access your case status.
Thanks for your sharing. Looks that you did not tried USCIS on-line system -- check here to get more info for your I485 case:

You could enable email notice as well -- USCIS will send you an email once the decision is made on your case.

If you could get more details for your I140 here with your SRC#, that would be appreciated. My I140 has the same Notice Date 8/3/2005 as yours since I have SRC#05-215-51xxx, 215 is the Julian date of 2005 which is Aug.3. I have LUD 8/18/2005, but no on-line status change or email notice. Waiting for coming regular USPS mail next week.
