Check lower portion of your I-797. If there is a new I-94 in there, that's the only original approval notice. You can apply for a visa stamp in any consulate for future use.
If you don't have I-94 and your lawyer asked you to apply a physical visa, that mean your H1b is under consulate process, you have to go to the consulate where your approval notice was sent.
