Pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) is a syndrome defined by a normocytic normochromic anemia with severe reticulocytopenia and marked reduction or absence of erythroid precursors from the bone marrow.
Pure red cell aplasia is a rare cause of anemia, caused by an absence of red bloodcell precursors in the bone marrow. It is often a paraneoplastic syndrome which may be associated with a thymoma. Thymectomy is usually indicated in these patients.Apr 1, 2011
