lumbar laminoplasty for my Dad, 76

My dad has leg pain for years. Recently a doctor recommended lumbar laminoplasty. The youtube videos I can find all look quite bloody and scary. Has anyone done this before? How long is the recovery time? What are the possible complications? The doctor said the actual surgery lasts one hour. What can happen to a 76 year old going through this surgery?
