No -- human body can handle up to 2 weeks without thyroid hormone, I believe your family doctor should refer you to a endocrinologist -- the endocrinologist will prescribe you Armour Thyroid (natural pig thyroid pill contains both T3 & t4), or Synthyroid (man make hormone only has T4). Some people become hypothyroidism (puffy face, and fatty belly, and lack of energy) when they are taking Synthyroid -- but as long as they switch to Armour thyroid, they are nomal again -- no weight/fat/energy problem.  Synthyroid may also cause breast cancer for long term intake... You can google to find related information.  I learn these from my colleauge -- whose thyroid was being killed by I-131 Radiate Iodine because her uncontrollable hyperthyroidism years ago.
