7 ~ 8 lb a month is not excessive in general for a male of around 200 lb.   To lose 2 lbs per week, one needs to reduce 7000 calories from a combination of reduced intakes and exercise.  That is about 1000 calories per day.  It is doable but very difficult - meaning a 600 to 800 calories burning exercise every day.
