Whether a home inspector needs a license depends on the

State they live in. Some states do not require a license, while others require extensive training and field experience.

Training: Some states require a 72-hour on-site training course approved by the Commission. 

 Exam: Some states require passing the National Home Inspectors Exam (NHIE). The exam is four hours long and costs around $225 per attempt.

Continuing education: Some states require license holders to complete 16 hours of continuing professional education every two years.
