For the newborn ( mother is positive for hepatitis B )
  • Immediate treatment: 
    The infant must receive the first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine and an injection of HBIG within 12 hours of birth. 
     
  • Vaccine series: 
    The baby will need to complete the hepatitis B vaccine series, which typically includes shots at 1-2 months and 6 months of age. 
     
  • Blood test: 
    Several months after completing the vaccination series, the baby will need a blood test to confirm they have developed protection against hepatitis B.
