The Kievan Rus’ was a powerful medieval state founded in the late 800s, with its capital in Kyiv. It’s considered the cultural and political ancestor of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia.Moscow didn’t exist yet, and it was founded about 300 years later (in 1147). So in this early period, Kyiv was the center of East Slavic civilization, not Moscow.
