The discussions regarding the Qatari Boeing 747-8 aircraft began during the Biden administration. In June 2023, the aircraft, previously registered as A7-HBJ and used by Qatar’s royal family, was transferred to Global Jet Isle of Man. Subsequently, the U.S. federal government entered negotiations to acquire the plane in 2025 for use as an interim Air Force One.
