The plan is to release the wastewater in the next 30 years

so the total amount of release per year is controlled. The issue is with the potential cumulation of tritium and other radioactive materials with long half lives in fish and other ocean organisms. It appears that oceanologists/ocean biologists are having somewhat different opinions on this risk.
