From historic perspective, today's crisis is just

a mild one. It is like somebody play with a new (state of art) weapon, but "accidentally" shot his foot. it just needs a better safety feature.

Socialism is efficiency killer (due to disregarding individual liberty), and this why soviet union collapsed rather dramatically.
