The jumpers on HDDs are Master/Slave/Cable Select. I tried all jumper settings together with BIOS IDE Configuration of AUTO DETECT as well as USER Define, no success so far. The message "Fxied disk configuration error" keeps prompting up and annoying me.
The problem of Compaq machines are they only recognize HDDs from Compaq OEM. The company have planted a piece of code in BOIS to serve this purpose. On the lable of every Compaq OEM HDDs are printed "Please replace with Compaq spare". You order Compaq spare parts form the company.

Your advice is somewhat brief, can you please tell in more detail?
