1. Actually any brand is fine. SMC7004VWBR should be okay.
I'm using an older SMC router which works just fine.

2. Yes. It is a good idea to use the same brand PC card.

By the way, SMC router is very stable. It is better than
Linksys and D-link ones according to my experience. It never
freezed once in the past two years. And SMC router setup
is the easiest.
