you should leave the option

"DHCP enabled" on to let Windows to contact the DHCP server on the router. "DHCP enabled" has nothing to do with running DHCP server on you PC. For the latter you have to enable the Windows Internet Connection Share (ICS) through XP's Network Setup Wizard.
