Start >> All Programs >> Microsoft SQL Server >> Enterprise Manager:

Expand [+] SQL Server >> then [+] SQL Server Group
If you can see (Local)(Windows NT) it tells you might have a local server installed. Else, find a introcudtion level SQL book and follow through. It is very wordy to tell by typing, but easy to do it step-by-step.
