Many years ago, Latex is the de Facto standard for every paper, thesis and dissertation. It is kind of hard to grasp. Today, only stright academy paper in CS will use it, everyone else is using Word for WYSIWYG.
however, the end effects has very subtle differences. Word document is always worse, something not right. Even with same font, Latex document is better.
Apple is the same story thanks the one semester class Jobs took on how to play with fonts. It is more appealing in Apple than PC.
