could be driver conflict as well

It seems that you didn't install XP properly. It makes no sense that you cannot install the latest NVIDIA drivers, Realtek HD audio driver.

My recommendation is re-installing XP. Since your mobo is fairly new and your HDD is SATA, there are a few things you need to do before installing XP. The genuine XP doesn't support SATA controllers. You have a few options here.
1. Download SATA driver (included in the NVIDIA chipset driver). Extract the driver and save it to a floppy disc. When installing XP, press F6 to install sata driver first.
2. Slipstream the chipset driver into your genuine XP disc using nLite.
3. If you don't want to do slipstreaming and you don't have a floppy drive, you can swap out your SATA HDD with an IDE HDD. Install XP to the IDE HDD.

After installing genuine XP, install the latest chipset driver. You should be able to download GF8200 driver from NVIDIA website.

After installing chipset driver, the SMBUS, PCI devices are detected. XP will pop up a new device found window and ask for permission to automatically install the driver. Always click CANCEL. The driver "automatically" found and installed by XP is usually trash. It will prohibit you from installing the correct Realtek HD driver. ALWAYS install Realtek HD driver manually -- by running the Realtek HD audio driver installation program on your own.

After installing all the necessary drivers, turn on XP automatic update. D/l all the patches from Microsoft windows update website. Now you will appreciate the value of genuine XP.

I don't recommend XP SP2 from Tomato garden. It is rumored to have trojans. Why take the chance? The guy running that website is already in jail.
