Yahoo IM and MSN IM

hi!
I added a user of Yahoo messenger to my MSN live messenger. I can chat with him instantly but his status on my MSN live messenger is always offline even when he appears online for everyone. My status on his Yahoo messenger is online.

anyone knows the problem? Thanks for the help!
