copy&paste function

can some one help me to solve this problem:

the copy and paste function is not working on my computer(os window2000 English).
detail: copy and paste function only worked for a short
period of time after system bootup, then an error dialog window popped up saying the SVCHOST.EXE was closed by window. i have no idea what is svchost.exe and what it is doing.thanks for your time to read this
