i tried to reinstall ipw3945 but did not work

Perhaps upgrade the kernel is another way to go, but the Suse repository shows the available version is 2.6.16....,
how to upgrade my kernel to 2.6.18... then?
I am not ready to do a system upgrade to 10.3 yet.
