I assume you use Vista. Vista automatically backs up the system, and creates restore points on the hard drive. That's how your hard drive got "eat up" fast.

Run "Disk Cleanup", click on "Options" tab on the top, then click the lower button in next screen. Then confirm to delete these restore point. You will get a lots of GBs back. :-)
