run multi-modules? How many modules does a developer need to run at the same time? Probably not more than two: compiling and testing? That is against engineering rule. I guess you mean open multi-modules, and this only require large memory. 1GB RAM is more than enough for a developer.

Hook up with video conference? That's a bit of joke. The nature of developer is to do the job, not for showing up. Video conference is mostly for marketing guys. IM or audio chat is enough to explain everything.

A 17" screen still doesn't help you much. However multiple screen is really a developer need. 2 screens will handle the normal job well, 3 screens will do perfectly. But none of these relates to laptop itself.
