Bonus or Career path

Please do not fight for a bonus but a career path. The master/mentor will never stand up for you if s/he have not gotten anything from your work.

Your better route maybe to talk with Business Consultant and work for their group as a Data Scientist and negotiate a raise. Your friend have no future growth within this group.
