In manufacturing, IT is a tool, nevertheless, a necessary and important tool, but it's a tool. Experience and domain knowledge caries more weight w/ business. It's easier for somebody to pick up IT skills quickly, but much harder for somebody to build business domain knowledge as you have, it takes years to accumulate. so why throwing it away?
