Agree. If a family memeber has chronic illness, the unforunate

won't happen over night, She should have communicated to her boss colleagues way before it happened.  Even if it is a sudden event, it canbe handled too, I do not know if she has informed her boss the return date when she left, offered frequence email communication or offered work remotely during the crisis.  There are must be something elase leading to the situation now.
