俺從manager的角度說一說吧

俺有過好幾個remote employees (俺IT的, 都是software engineers), 最後work out 留下來的隻有一個。  有的fire了, 有的leave for other opportunities, 有的transferred to other teams。  I would strongly suggest you to communicate as detailed as possible to your manager, especially during 1x1.

For remote employees, over-communication is always better than under-communication.  My only survived remote employee has great communication skills.  First he was able to prove his strong technical skills to me.  Second he always keeps me updated on the status of his projects/tickets。  If he could not meet the deadline, he always gave me heads-ups in advance so I have enough time to allocate other resources to help him out.  And he was always able to provide good reasons AND demonstrate his efforts.  Of course most of the time, he meets the timeline.  Otherwise it doesn't matter how good his reasons are.
