In first 10 yrs, looking for small or start up company is a better option since you would learn more and fast. If you feel that there is nothing to learn but daily routin work, it is time to find a new job.

After 10 yrs, try to climb the ladder. If jump jobs can get you there, do it.

My personal opinion is that if you don't own a consulting company youself (work for yourself as a consultant), cut off the middle man (contracting companies) is better.
