tell them the truth.

Tell them the company is cutting the workforce and you are one of the victims, but they will keep your name on the payroll until August 1st, 2011. If they ask why you were let go, tell them something like: the company has made some strategic changes recently, they no longer need my skillset as much as before. 

If you really want them to help you, be open with them.
