background:

an offer from a relatively stable large dept. new area, familiar work, new org.many new things to learn. manager may be tough to work with. He does not appear to be one of those who would watch out for employees, after my negotiation with him for a higher title.

current position: terrible relationship with sr. management due to numerous reasons and some history with individuals. comfortable with current manager.  potentially a promotion though not fully communicated yet. will lose the promo if accept offer.group is small, unstable but with high profile.
