Compensation varies dramatically within small business arena. Large corporations bench mark industrial standard and calculate fair market value for annual pay raise curve. For your case, you can bench mark your predecessor's pay. You have to reference his/her responsibilities, experiences, and criteria to leave the position to your personal situation. If everything is comparable, I suggest asking a salary 10% above your predecessor's compensation a year ago.
