Strategies vs. tactics

This is more about strategies than about tactics...

1. A chemist without a Ph.D. is considered more of a technician than of a scientist. As such, your relatively weak bargaining position to some degree works against you.
2. On the other hand, your many years' worth of work expeirence, and more importantly, your track record of achievements (inferable from your past employers' wanting to retain you as well as your prospective employer's obvious desire to hire you) speak in your favor.

If I were you, I would cast my net a bit wider and apply to a few more outfits to, if nothing else, simply better gauge my marketability as well as market value.

You seem to be a nice guy verged on scoring bigger and better things. Be confident and go for it - you have little to lose but much to gain.
