Maybe a little lie, but it works for the benefit of your bf. And told your bf that his friend wanted him to do xxxx (whatever you put there is proper).

I don't know about taking care of family part. But if I had a friend like that, I would certainly take care of his family, but maybe not live together. That will be very very weird.
