Yes, I think the tone in your response email was too tense, not humble, collaborative enough. That's only my personal opinion.

I still don't get MrsD's story (sorry again for not spending my time carefully reading your email, schedule not allowed). What's the downside if you do the work? Additionally I think sometimes things are not necessarily black and write and we should not be overly occupied by getting every job done. Sometimes process and getting involved could be more important than getting the job done quickly.
