Should I take this chance?

A friend is preparing a startup developing oil drilling equipments with
a couple of people. And he asks me to join them: no pay for about a year,
develop prototype at spare time.

I'm interested in this opportunity but it's hard for me to work without pay since my current job pays low and is not very stable.
