As long as you know you are going to work with THIS recruiter even though this ONE position may not work out, one of the first things they want to know is your salary range. Some may also ask what you expect from the next job. There's nothing wrong with that because the company they are speaking to will ask them the same question.
I normally tell the recruiter my expected salary and ask them to negotiate for me. That saves me a lot of time and the comany doesn't immediately blame me for high expectation so I still have my own backup
What's wrong with telling them about your salary?
