Might have better chance in two years, just too hard now. Another fund is blowing out today in my town 100ish people will be showing door. So he should keep working on tests and in two years hope he is ready.

Tell you hubby keep going if that's really what he want, but prepare to have lower starting salary and working like monkey with a wishful thinking that the year-end bonus will be fat :-)
Level III might even better but again, networking is top priority. Without MBA or Accounting, CPA, it's hard to get into the industry. Think about there less than 5k Chinese mainlander in the front office in USA, if excluding quant.
late 30 in age is not important,motivation is important.
