At issue is getting priorities right...

First, with apologies to Aotu, for, as usual, showing off my better-than-average English.

With formalities out of the way, here are my 991 bytes' worth of observation:

1. With only three months under your belt at your current position, a key question to ask yourself is: Have I established myself as a person ready for greater responsibilities? Needless to say, usually it takes a big longer than three months to establish a track record at most positions.

2. If you are less than ready (judged by your superiors, fairly or unfairly) for the higher position at this time, you will likely be viewed as, to borrow a familiar Chinese saying, someone who wishes to run before he/she learns to walk. Having that kind of dubious reputation does not help with your career anywhere in the long run.

3. More promising opportunities are always on the horizon, and when they do arive, they always go to those who have best prepared themselves.

4. Should your urge to jump on it get the better of yourself, go about it by floating a test balloon first. For instance, casually bring this up with your boss and see her reactions. If her initial response is less than enthusiastic/encouraging, I would beat a quick retreat and abandon the idea entirely. If you get positive readings from the test balloon, try to solicit more concrete support from your boss and proceed with caution.
