Mostly because I grew up feeling as a misfit in china myself. I did well on everything in school, but I just never had the feeling I was accepted or wanted by the society.

The schools I went to are the most liberal ones in china, we were encouraged to be independend thinkers even in high school. And that clearly didn't fit well in the bigger environment.
