GDP is not too meaningful.

What is relevent to the people is the part of GDP generated by comsumption.  As I recall, about 80% in US is from comsumption, and 38% for China.

In other words, the DGP per capita in China need to be about twice as much as that in US for the people to enjoy the same benefit (adjusted for purchasing power).
