Honestly, I cannot say you are way off. However,

not just Chinese, NYC in general, if you watch people during rush hours, almost everyone looks kind of serious, or troubled, or even just frustrated with Angry Birds:)

But they are on their way to work, few people are really happy about work.

In cities like Seattle, people are a lot relaxed, even homeless people, not sure whether you would like to trade with them:)
