That is a good question. But

don't worry about it. The pilot light is just like a tiny candle. It literally does nothing to your 40 or 50 gallon tank even if your tank were empty. It is only for re-lighting purpose when you turn it back to normal mode. Otherwise, you would have to re-ignite it yourself.
