If you have 3 kids, mini van or full-size rather than mid-sized SUV.  SUV and mini van have no difference in terms of visibility.  If you want off-road capabilities, you need truck-based or real SUV rather than cross-overs.  If you are really into SUCVs, look for something like Toyota Sequoia, GM Suburban or at least Yukon.
