Help pls: how to know if rear brake shoe is working after replac

I replaced my old toyota automatic car brake shoes. I did not figure out how to test if the brake really functional. How to know it works?

If I have one person pressing the brake pedal, then try to see if the brake drum move or not. If not, then the brake is functional. Right?

Also the parking brake, ?
